Neck Pickups

Just like their bridge counterparts, all Baron T-style neck pickups feature a metal plate at the bottom. This bespoke piece is made from a special alloy and enhances the efficiency of the pickup significantly without sacrificing high end or dynamic response. As a result, Baron neck pickups are easily loud enough to match their bridge counterparts, while offering a very balanced frequency response.

Pickup Models

Dark ’49 (neck or bridge)
Like the very first pickups made for the prototypes of Leo’s new solidbody, the Dark ’49s feature AlNiCo 3 magnets and the thinner AWG 43 wire. And quite a lot of it. Thicker and darker sounding than any later T-style pickup, their healthy output and prominent midrange will push a tweed amp into swampy overdrive.

Old ’50 (neck or bridge)
The Old ’50 has the same ingredients as the ’49 but less winds on the coil. Still warm sounding, but with less prominent midrange and a little more high end, the ’50 has that old wooden sound, many of us have in their head, but rarely in their guitar. My personal favourite.

Classic ’54 (neck or bridge)
With the stronger, but not yet staggered A5 magnets, this brief episode in the T-pickup history is the perfect base for a twangy, yet balanced sound. With just the right amount of bell-like high end and still a healthy midrange, the bridge pickup delivers the classic T-twang without harshness. The neck position is extremely versatile, supporting any style from warm jazz lines to crisp country rhythm.

Silver ’61 (neck or bridge)
The staggered pole pieces and lighter coloured coil wrapping of the early sixties mean treble! A glassy high-end, a prominent but tight bass and a finely adjusted midrange make the ’61s the chime kings of the lineup. Be it surf, funk or punk, their percussive bite is just addictive.

Wild Card (bridge position only)
The Wild Card combines the characteristics of a classic T-style pickup with those of a P.A.F. for a true best of both worlds sound. With it’s strong and dry bass, throaty midrange and balanced high end, it is the perfect pickup for everyone who is looking for an alternative to the classic T-chime. The high output makes it the perfect companion for stronger neck pickups like the Variato or the Charlie.
